INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The 2007 Indianapolis 500 Chase Rookie of the Year will return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend, but this time he'll be turning right into turn one. Phil Giebler will return to the Speedway to run the Indy Pro Series double header event on the road course that utilizes the south short chute, first turn, and the front straight away of the world famous oval.
Giebler will pilot the Playa Del Racing/Ethos Fuel Reformulator car No.12 around the famous race track. "This is going to be a great event for everyone at Playa Del Racing," said Giebler. "We showed everyone in this league that we are capable of running up front when we qualified on the front row in St. Pete, so I’m looking forward to taking it one more step forward and competing for the win this weekend."
Playa Del Racing is coming off two solid top ten finishes by Al Unser III on the Indianapolis oval as well as the Milwaukee oval two weeks ago. "Our expectations of this team's performance are becoming higher every time we take the track," said Gary Sallee, co-owner of Playa Del Racing. "Giebler is a true road course specialist so we’re expecting this to be a great weekend for Playa Del Racing."
Al Unser III matched the team's best finish of the year two weekends ago at the Milwaukee Mile. Giebler plans on building on the current momentum. "We have a great thing going right now with Al and me running the series together as teammates," said Giebler. "We're both competing on tracks that suit us better as drivers, and we're all learning a lot each time the car goes out on the track. This team is going to surprise some people this year believe me."
Mike Colliver, team engineer and new father of his week old son Taylor, is excited about getting Giebler back on a road course. "This has been one of the best weeks of my life with the birth of my son, and having a guy like Giebler behind the wheel going into this weekend gives me confidence that we could score this team's first victory. A win would be a perfect ending to a perfect week," said Colliver.
You can catch the Phil Giebler's return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on ESPN2 on Thursday, June 21st at 5pm.
