GIEBLER WILL START 5TH IN THE FIRST ROUND AT THE GLEN
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y.- Playa Del Racing returns to Watkins Glen International for the second year,  this time with road course specialist Phil Giebler behind the wheel. Giebler will start 5th in the first round of the two race weekend at The Glen.

Giebler gave PDR the team’s first front row start on the Streets of St. Petersburg earlier this season, and now he has qualified the in the top five for the first of two Indy Pro Series races this weekend.

“This is a great opportunity for this team to show what we can do,” said Giebler. “I’ve been pretty happy with the car all weekend, so I’m looking forward to getting out there and racing.”

The Corning Twin 100’s will be the first time since St. Petersburg that Playa Del Racing has qualified in the top 5. Playa Del Racing has finished solidly in the top 10 in four of the last six raises, and the momentum is bringing higher expectations to the whole organization.

“We have always believed that we were capable of running with the big dogs in this league, and we are proving that to be true this season. Phil (Giebler) has put us in a position to get this team its first win.  We are capable of running with anyone out there this weekend,” said Gary Sallee, co-owner of PDR.

Round one of the double header begins today at 11:45am, and race two starts at the same time tomorrow. The top six finishers of today’s race will be inverted to make up the starting order for race two.

“We are the underdog every week, but we thrive in that position,” said co-owner Susan Schafer. “Our guys always find a way to make the car work on race day, and with Giebler behind the wheel there is really no telling what we can do. I think we’re going to surprise some people this weekend.”

You can catch the Corning Twin 100’s on indycar.com today and tomorrow at 11:45am, or watch it on ESPN2 Thursday, July 12 at 5:30pm.
