WATKINS GLEN, N.Y.- Phil Giebler has achieved another Playa Del Racing milestone. The 27 year old veteran holds PDR’s top qualifying spot (2), first Indianapolis 500 Chase Rookie of the Year award, and now has scored PDR’s highest finish by accepting the checkered flag in 4th place today in the first round of the Corning Twin 100’s.
“I’m so happy for to be able to give this team a solid finish. PDR deserves a great finish, and we got that today,” said Giebler.
Giebler started in the 5th position and made a quick pass to move into 4th immediately after the green flag was thrown. He battled his way to third during the middle of the race before dropping to 4th where he and 5th place Bobby Wilson battled during the last half the race.
“That race was physically and mentally taxing, but that is what the IndyPro Series is all about. This series is so competitive that one little slip up could drop you back two or three spots. The drivers I were racing with today raced clean, and that makes for a great show for the fans.”
The Playa Del Racing team will have another shot to set a new team best tomorrow when the Indy Pro Series will take the track for one another exciting show at Watkins Glen International.
“We had a good car today, but it will be even better tomorrow. We have a lot of work to do today, but I think we’ll have another great day tomorrow.”
Playa Del Racing will start 3rd in the final half on the Corning Twin 100’s double header, and the team plans to make whatever changes needed to earn an even better position in Sunday’s event.
“We’ve had an incredible weekend so far, but we feel we can do even better tomorrow,” said engineer of the No.12 Ethos Fuel Reformulator, Mike Colliver. “We’re going to sit down and do our homework so that we can give Phil an even better shot at the podium tomorrow.”
