Playa Del Racing continues to gain momentum after an impressive weekend at the famous Watkins Glen International.
Phil Giebler drove the Playa Del Racing/Ethos Fuel Reformulator to not only one team best finish in the Saturday race, but he then drove his way to another 4th place finish in the Sunday race. Giebler continues to achieve milestones for PDR and now has the highest finish in the teams three year history.
“I was really hoping to do better than 4th in the second race, but all-in-all we had a very impressive weekend,” said Giebler, the Chase 2007 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year. “We continue to learn more and more every weekend, and this weekend was no exception to that.”
Playa Del Racing has had a season of highs and lows, but the Watkins Glen Corning Twin 100’s were definitely the most positive race weekend to this point. Giebler started the first race on Saturday with the second highest qualification run (5th) for the PDR team. Race one consisted of some great racing between Brian Stewart Racing’s, Bobby Wilson, and Giebler’s Venture Logistics-sponsored No.12 car. Giebler won the battle for 4th position, where he would go onto finish the race.
The PDR team made several adjustments to Giebler’s car to prepare for different track conditions for the Sunday event, but the unpredictable Watkins Glen weather brought nearly the same conditions as the Saturday race. Giebler drove as hard as the car would allow him to and finished the race with another solid top 5 finishing position.
“This was a fabulous weekend for Playa Del Racing,” said Susan Schafer, owner of PDR. “I couldn’t be more proud of everyone on the team. We’re always the underdog at the track, and we’re starting to handle that role extremely well. Momentum is definitely on our side.”
Nashville’s 1.3 mile oval is the next race on the Indy Pro Series schedule. Al Unser III will pilot the Playa Del Racing/Ethos Fuel Reformulator No.12 at the Nashville Superspeedway, so stay tuned to www.playadelracing.com for more updates on Giebler, Unser, and the rest of the PDR squad.
